About

The Saadian Tombs are a historic royal necropolis located in Marrakech, Morocco. Built in the late 16th century, they house the remains of over sixty members of the Saadi dynasty, which ruled Morocco from 1549 to 1659.

The tombs are a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture, featuring intricate carvings, colorful mosaics, and beautiful marble columns. The most impressive structure is the Chamber of Twelve Columns, which houses the tomb of Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur, the most famous Saadian ruler. The chamber is adorned with stunning zellij tilework and intricate stucco decorations.

The Saadian Tombs were sealed up and hidden from the public for centuries after the fall of the Saadian dynasty. They were rediscovered in 1917 by aerial photography and have since become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Marrakech.

Visitors can wander through the various chambers and courtyards, admiring the intricate details of the tombs and learning about the history of the Saadian dynasty. The tombs are a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the heart of the bustling city, offering a glimpse into Morocco's rich cultural heritage.
